Adding "Bling" to Your Closet with Hangers

In addition to the many clothes that adorn our closets ladies, how about adding a little "bling" to your closet with hangers, yes hangers.  During my search for locating luxury vendors for An Intimate Bridal Affair Chicago, I came across Hangers Couture.  Hangers Couture are designer beaded hangers and a are a great way to display find garments or delicate fabrics, and will add that feminine touch to any Bride or Bridesmaid's closet and home.

Hangers Couture was founded by Brittney Zeller.  She was inspired by a trip to Scandinavia. Marriage: It's okay to say "I Do"

This past Saturday as I was perusing through Facebook, a friend of mine wrote on her status that she was attending a wedding. One of the things she said that stood out to me was, "I especially love the exchanging of vows. It's a mystery how two become one..." I immediately thought of Genesis wherein God stated, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."

I found an article on ivillage.com about the Top Ten Reasons why men are afraid to commit. One reason is the fear of the lost of freedom. It is interesting to read these excuses (not reasons). The U.S. Census reports that over the past four decades, the rate of marriage has definitely been on the decrease. According to the National Marriage Project, a study undertaken at Rutgers University, men today are overwhelmingly apprehensive about getting married. Commitment and marriage are not anything to be afraid of. I’m not saying it’s just men either, there are many women who fear commitment too (past hurt, trust, etc.).

According to selfhelpbible.com, “You have to accept that no single person will ever fulfill all of your needs. Be realistic in your expectations of other persons because they are, after all, human beings just like you. Do not expect them to make you happy, because you don't make them happy all of the time right? Nobody is perfect.”

Why are you writing about this? What does this have to do with wedding planning?

I am speaking about this because one of the reasons I decided to become a wedding planner is because I am a true advocate of love and marriage (a hopeless romantic). I love weddings and seeing two individuals say "I do" is one of the most beautiful things to witness.

Soon the engagement season will start and many couples are contemplating marriage or already engaged, but have lingering questions and/or doubts. I admit marriage is not easy, this is a commitment made before God to spend the rest of your life with one person.  Many fear marriage because of the word “commitment.” Once that commitment is made, the purpose is not to prepare for that one day (the wedding) but prepare to spend a lifetime together, until death do you two part.

On the Talk About Marriage forum, I found some very empowering words from a newsletter to couples that I wanted to share:

The Importance of Wedding Insurance

I was asked recently to write an article about wedding insurance and wanted to share with couples the importance of obtaining wedding insurance.  When planning a wedding, purchasing wedding insurance is the last thing on many couples minds. Wedding Insurance is an additional cost that many couples do not want to think about. However, that additional purchase protects the investment of couples from an unexpected and unforeseen emergency.  Here are a few reasons why.

In January 2012, Glitz  Event Design will embark on its first ever bridal event, An Intimate Bridal Affair™.

An Intimate Bridal Affair™ will not be your ordinary Bridal event. What will make this event different from any other Bridal event is that this will be a Bridal experience for the bride-to-be, not your ordinary Bridal event where the bride goes from table to table to sample makeup, food & sweets.

Is Wearing Color the "new" White for Today's Bride?

Out with the old, in with the new...who says you have to wear white on your wedding day?  The days of just bridesmaids wearing "color" down the aisle is becoming obsolete.  For the upcoming 2012 wedding season, I've noticed that designers have designed dresses for brides in different colors, not just the traditional white.

It has been customary for a bride to wear white on her wedding day.  However, these days brides are choosing to wear what they want, whether it is white, bold colors (red, green gold), neutral colors (ivory or pink), or a short or long gown.  It is common for different cultures to wear different colors other than white on their wedding day, but not common for American culture.  "Old school" parents, grandparents, etc., may have a problem with their daughter and/or granddaughter wearing anything but white on her wedding day because it has always been tradition to wear white.

Vera Wang's 2012 Spring Collection offers bold colors for the "modern" bride.  Below are a few pictures of Vera Wang's 2012 bridal collection.  I love the bold colors.

These different colors will definitely have the bride stand out from the crowd and give guests something to talk about for years.

Would You Wear a "Rented" Wedding Dress?

Last week during my ride on the train, I overheard two ladies discussing wedding dresses.  I wasn't sure if one of the ladies was getting married or if they knew of someone getting married.  However, they were both discussing how expensive wedding dresses are.  So one of the ladies suggested to the other that she "rent" a wedding dress which brings me to ask this question, "would you wear a rented wedding dress?"

Many brides may feel renting a dress is a great idea since it is only worn that one day.  Since the majority of grooms rent the tux for the wedding, a bride may feel it should be okay for her to rent her dress.  Keep in mind that your wedding day is a once in a LIFETIME experience.  I know many brides have dreamed of there wedding day since they were a little girl and even though the dress may never be worn again, memories are to be cherished of that special day, shared with their children, grandchildren, etc., and the wedding dress is a huge part of the wedding experience.

While renting may be a good money saving option, keep in mind that the dress may not be altered to fit the bride because it is rented.  If you are on a tight budget, another suggestion may be to purchase a "used" wedding dress.  However, many of the bridal stores have great sales on their wedding dresses, some as low as $99.

Many wedding traditions are specific to cultures, but there is one component of the ceremonies that generally remains universal:  the beautiful, delicate dress of the bride.  So keep that in mind when you are deciding whether or not to rent, buy used or purchase a new wedding gown for your once in a lifetime experience.

What Fragrance Will Best Describe You on Your Wedding Day?

Choosing the Perfect Wedding Day Fragrance that Compliments You

Perfume is an important part of your wedding day. According to Martha Stewart Weddings, a lovely perfume can evoke the feelings of your wedding day. "Scents are processed in the emotional part of the brain," says Alan R. Hirsch, M.D., founder of the Smell & Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago. "When you first wear a fragrance, your memory of the occasion is linked with the scent." --*Martha Stewart Weddings, Choosing a Fragrance

Choosing certain fragrances can compliment the style of wedding you intend on having. What do you mean? For instance, if you want a romantic and elegant wedding, then it would be a good idea to choose fragrance that best describe romance and elegance like a sweet and floral scent. You may also be the type of bride who likes indulges in wearing classic perfumes like Coco Chanel.

A sweet and soft perfume I suggest is Flowerbomb by Viktor and Rolf. It's a light flower scented perfume. Flowerbomb reminds me of taking a trip in the country, taking a long walk, then going home to drink tea and relax. The scent is calming and the earthy scent in my opinion is very enchanting.

The scent has the hint of tea, bergamot, cattleya orchid, freesia, rose, amber, musk, patchouli, sambac jasmine and orange tree. This soft scent has been polished to remove the hard edges of the patchouli to give it less of an earthy fragrance, making this perfume more wearable.

Flowerbomb Perfume's mature, sensual scent has a light sweetness to it. Sometimes a light sexy scent can make a woman feel beautiful especially a bride on her wedding day.

Helpful Tips and Suggestions

1. If a flowery scent isn't your first choice, there are many other fragrances to choose from during your wedding planning process. Choose a few before making your final decision.
2.  To make the fragrance last on your wedding day I would suggest you layer it.
3.  Perfume smells differ on everyone because everyone's body chemistry is different. I would suggest that if you find a perfume you like that you smelled on someone else, to first get a sample of it, wear it a couple of times to see if it is indeed the right scent for you.
4.  Don't choose Vera Wang perfume just because you are wearing her beautiful gown because that perfume scent may not be the scent for you.
5. Take your fiancé along with you. His decision in this process is important too. Of course he may not want to go, but after all he will be the one in your arms the entire day, night and after the wedding and your scent will be on his mind event when you are not around. So it is important that you want him pleased with your scent, it will drive him crazy and he won't be able to get enough of you.

Here of late, I have been hinting around and teasing everyone about "something new" coming soon. Well, I thought it better to introduce my “something” new on my “something” old blog. But before I give a formal introduction, I decided that along with the new company, I’d bring along with me a new blog. I decided to name it, “Intimate Wedding Lounge… for the bride & groom!” What better place for the bride & groom to be to come and relax during the stressful wedding planning process.

Why Glitz?

Glitz Event Design is a luxury planning company specializing in couture wedding planning and luxurious event design.  With its main office in Chicago, we also have a virtual office in New York and will be providing Nationwide Services.

I came up with the name Glitz because I strongly believe the bride's wedding should be an extravagant experience with a special touch of glamour. Guests should leave the wedding with their mouths open in awe. Tremendous effort has been made to develop relationships with vendors throughout the country to ensure they will be a perfect fit for our events and clients.

The Vegas Experience - "Chicago" Wedding Planner Style

Last week I had the honor of being in the presence of some AWEsome wedding planners throughout the world, "wedding innovators."  The purpose of this trip was to get inspired, take time for ME to work on my business and come back to Chicago with innovative ideas to WOW my flavor of clients.

In the midst of being in the presence of some wonderful individuals, I had the pleasure of staying at the Green Valley Ranch Resort.  What a lovely experience.  Very elegant hotel that screams "Grace and Luxury."  Two of my favorite words.

When I arrived on Sunday, I had the pleasure of touring 3 Vegas Chapels.  I even saw Elvis pull up at the chapel in a pink cadillac!  Will you believe that Las Vegas performs around 120,000 weddings a year and that some of the chapels perform as many as 450 weddings a month?  You can also get a marriage license until midnight.

On the last day of this fabulous week, I had the honor of meeting Chris Easter (co-founder of the www.TheManRegistry.com), Ian Prosser (founder and award winning floral and event designer of Botanica), Stacie Francombe (formerly of Get Married and who recently launched "Celebrity Wedding Reporter"), the classy Sylvia Weinstock ("Queen of Wedding Cakes") and Ciara Daykin (CEO of Firefly Occasions).

If you’re looking to have your wedding in Las Vegas, I can definitely point you in the right direction. I now have great wedding contacts there.

A New Wedding Experience -- from a Wedding Planner's Perspective...

Events by Candace will be closing its doors soon and launching a new wedding experience in May 2011.  The reason being is that we want our full attention to be exclusively to our brides and grooms to be.  It is important that our brides have a beautiful, exciting and calm experience during their wedding planning.  The NEW experience will consist of a talented team that will work together to ensure that our brides will have sparkle and glitz with a touch of vintage elegance so that her wedding will be unlike anything that her friends and family have ever seen...

Do you want to be part of this exciting experience?  Are you a bride who wants full attention throughout the chaos during her wedding experience?  The fabulous Coco Chanel said it best, "a girl should be two things:  classy & fabulous," and that's exactly how we look at our brides and she will be treated as such during her wedding experience.

Food Inspiration :: Caribbean Cuisine

Anyone who knows me, knows that I LOVE to eat.  Yesterday I attended a food tasting by the lovely Lucero Martinez of Lucero Caribbean Cuisine Catering at Lush Wine & Spirits in Chicago.  Guests were not disappointed.  Her food was strategically paired with the delicious wine from Lush Wine & Spirits so that they could compliment one another.  I also love the fact that her cuisine is authentic Latin flavor.  For dessert, we were adorned with truffles from Katherine Anne Confections, which is NEVER a disappointment.

Valentine's Day Ideas for Engaged Couples

Valentine's Day is quickly approaching and now that you are engaged and probably overwhelmed with all the wedding planning, I'm sure you are wondering what you should get your future husband or wife for Valentine's Day.

As I was searching for unique Valentine ideas for couples, I found this article on 5 Ways Celebrating Valentine's Day Can Help You With Wedding Planning, by Nina Callway on About.com.  I wanted to share with you three ideas from that article on how Valentine's Day can help you with your wedding planning:

Take Pen to Paper. Who doesn't like to receive a nice love letter or even written words in a card. If you weren't thinking about it, this can also help you in writing your wedding vows.


Practice Your First Kiss. "Sharing a kiss on Valentine's Day is practically mandatory," states Nina. She also goes on to say that this is a good time to practice how you'll kiss at the alter. What's the harm in practicing your wedding kiss the entire day?

May I Have This Dance? Dancing to me is a way two people can interact with one another to the beat of beautiful music and tune the rest of the world out. On Valentine's Day, you can practice your first dance with one another and if you find that neither one of you have rhythm, then now may be a good time to check out some dance schools that offer lessons for your wedding day. This is also a good time to discuss your first dance song.

If you are getting married this year, now is the time to consider these three things.  Keep in mind that your schedule will get very hectic as the wedding day approaches.  Best advice I can give is don't wait until the last minute.

How do you charge for your services?
Generally, we charge a flat fee. This is based on hours and the complexity of the event as well as the services needed to accomplish the clients’ needs.

What exactly is included in your service?

We are a full service wedding and event planning company and have the ability to meet any of your expectations. Our two popular services include the following: Luxury, which entails full service wedding coordination and Elegance, which entails the “Day of” and begins 30 days before your wedding date.

NOTE: More couples are opting for Day of services. I am offering a special to any couples who hire Events by Candace by the end of the year for their day of wedding needs. You may contact me personally for further details.

Can you recommend reputable vendors?

Yes.  We ally ourselves with the most reputable of vendors throughout the Chicagoland area.  Our extensive research team is always on the look out for vendors that will enhance our clients’ events.

What is your style? How creative can you be?

Our style is considered traditional with a creative and modern flair and can be as creative and unique as you, the client, would want us to be. The key is to understand what you want and promote it with a sense of style, elegance and continuity.
